I am still trying to determine the best way to implement the Come Follow Me with our family at home. My kids ages are 7,7,6,3,1 so this plays a big role in how we study! Last week we had what appeared like nightly mini FHE lessons to go over all the scriptures and prompts in the CFMFI&F. I have to say I loved this! It was so cool to see my kids engage with what we were reading in the scriptures in a real way. This makes me excited for week two! As I am studying it personally this week is a little more straightforward since its just two chapters and not miscellaneous scriptures. I already feel a little less overwhelmed! Plus I’m excited to dive into the New Testament and study it like never before!
New Testament Come Follow Me Families and Individuals Week- 2 Day 1
The verses we read on day one: St Matthew Chapter 1:1-17
As your family reads the genealogy of Jesus, you might explain that it traces His royal lineage through Joseph back to King David. This lineage was significant because it had been prophesied that the Messiah would come through the lineage of David (see Jeremiah 23:5–6). This could be a good opportunity to discuss your own family history and share some stories about your ancestors. How does knowing about your family history bless your family?
- For night one I want to emphasize the importance of lineage with my family. To begin I went through and marked each of the mens names, in the lineage from Abraham down to Jesus Christ.
- I have also created a printable set of these names. You can first read the scriptures together verses 1-17. I cut out the names of each man and using the scriptures as our guide we laid them out on the floor in order. This is a great way to visually see the mortal line of men that came before Jesus Christ was born. While inviting your kids to have a little fun as they order them from first to last! Let them use their own scriptures (if they have them) to figure out where they all go!!

I hope this quick little hands on game makes if fun for you and your families to dive into the scriptures tonight!!
Quick little update! I played this game with my kids tonight. I cut out each of the names and laid them on the floor as I read the scripture verses. As we got to each new name my kids raced to find the name first from the pile! This not only was a fun scripture game but it helps practice a little reading while your at it! (WIN) .My kids had such a fun time finding the names and placing them in a long line on the couch! We discussed how these were all “great great great etc. Grandpas to Jesus’ father on earth; Joseph.” It was so fun to talk about all these “grandpas since it was easy for them to understand! We paused a few times as they recognized names such as King David and re-visited the story of David and Goliath. I know that it made it more real for them to understand that these were real men; fathers and grandfathers. It really was such a simple and fun game! They begged to play it again!
I hope your family especially those with young kids had just as much fun as we did!
