Luke 2; Matthew 2-Primary Lesson Help-Come Follow Me-New Testament-This lesson help will include formulated ideas to easily print out and share with your class from each section of the come follow me manual! I have created this lesson help to make your primary lesson planning faster and fun! I hope you enjoy what I have created for you this week!
Luke 2; Matthew 2-Primary Lesson Help-Come Follow Me-New Testament
Jesus Was Born: Luke 2:1-14
If you have one, bring a Nativity set and invite the children to set the pieces in appropriate places as you tell them the story of Jesus Christ’s birth. You could also show a picture of the Nativity (see, for example, this week’s outline in Come, Follow Me—For Individuals and Families). Point to different people in the Nativity and invite the children to share what they know about each person.
The visual for this portion of the lesson has been a labor of love! and its also been major learning curve! SO don’t judge to harshly but I made a full set of the nativity characters using photoshop! I wanted you to be able to share each individual person that is part of the nativity. I though this would be great to allow you to really talk about each person and the roles they play.
Primary Lesson Help-I can give good gifts to Jesus
The Wise Men gave Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. How can you use this story to teach the children that they can give gifts to Jesus too—like love, service, and obedience?
Help each child draw or write a list of gifts they can give Jesus, such as “being a good friend” or “praying.” Invite the children to share their lists with the class and choose one to work on this week.
For this segment of the lesson I have created a little printable you can give to each member of your class. They can write down a few ideas with your help or individually and then put them somewhere in their home to remember the priceless gifts they can give to Jesus.
Primary Lesson Help-Jesus was Once a Child Like Me-Luke 2:40-52
I absolutely loved this lesson idea of bringing their own baby pictures in! My twin boys happen to be in my class so I know they will get such a kick out of this! I also love the idea of singing the song! If you want to save some time you could also use the lyrics as a handout as well! Additionally I found a really great coloring page for younger primary kids of Mary and Jesus as a baby this came from www.lds.org.
Primary Lesson Help-Ancient Prophets Foretold of the Saviors Birth-Luke 2:1-21; Matthew 2: 1-2
Ask the children to talk about things they look forward to, such as a birthday or holiday. Have the children read Helaman 14:2–5 to find something prophets were looking forward to.
For this portion of the lesson I have a prompt you can share with your class to help lead this discussion. Then you can give each of your class members the scripture found in Helaman. I am finding that even with my 8 year old class the majority of them do not have scriptures. So I hope that this little hadn’t out will help you use the scriptures better in your lesson and navigate that challenge. as surely I am not the only who’s class doesn’t have scriptures. After you have gone over the scripture ask your class the second prompt for this section.
Primary Lesson Helps-New Testament-Jesus was once a child like me-Luke 2: 40, 52
After reviewing Luke 2:40, 52, invite the children to share what they think Jesus would have been like when He was their age. How would He have treated His mother? His brothers and sisters?
Once again for this portion of the lesson I have a question to prompt your class and printable’s of the scriptures describing Jesus as a child.
Primary Lesson Help-I can follow Jesus’s example-Luke 2:41-52
With the children, read Luke 2:46–49 and ask, “How was Jesus doing His ‘Father’s business’?” Help the children list or draw on the board ways they can help do Heavenly Father’s business too.
For this last section of your lesson I have two question prompt and a Scripture reference. If your students do bring their scriptures to class it helps to have the reference to place where they can see as they search for the different verses through the lesson.
That concludes all the lesson helps I have for this weeks primary lesson! Luke 2 Matthew 2! You can click the link below to easily download each on drop box! Be sure to pin this post to save this idea for later!
