Jesus Calms the Storm is the central part of this week’s primary lesson. I have an easy set of visual aids to help you tell this story to young kids and make it fun! Plus additional questions and prompts to help them understand what Jesus is teaching us through this story!
Jesus Calms the Storm
This week as we prep for primary the assigned reading for the lesson includes:
Matthew 8-9 Mark 2-5
This is a lot to cover for one week! So if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed that’s ok! I have a really simple way to break this all up into a 20 min lesson for your primary class!
As we read Jesus calms the storm in Mark 4: 35-41 we hear the profound of story of Jesus calming the storm on the wind-tossed sea:

Mark 4: 35-41
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, aPeace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great bcalm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so afearful? how is it that ye have no bfaith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Jesus Calms the Storm for Kids
I thought it would be fun to share this story in a more visual way for my own primary class. So I created several illustrations of the story. You can print them all out and then put the story words on the back of each element. I will show you below how I did this. As usual, I have also laminated it for good measure. This has been my go-to for quickly laminating without a laminator!
Jesus Heals the Sick and Performs Miracles
In addition to Jesus calms the storm, he also performs many other miracles healing the sick and afflicted. I created a game for the Family study this week for come follow me the covers all 8 of these miracles you can find it here and it would also work great for this primary lesson!
I still wanted to emphasize the power of these miracles in my primary lesson to and have done so through the list of questions and prompts I will use to lead my class this discussion this week below. As always it includes scripture references to help keep these discussions in line with the doctrine in the scripture being taught.
As we talk about the miracles that Jesus performed healing the sick and when Jesus calms the storm, I wanted to have a powerful scripture to share with my class so they could understand that these miracles prove that Jesus can help feel peace and comfort. He can heal us and he can be our strength in times of need. I felt like this scripture in Psalms 46:10was perfect and you can use this free print in your class.
To wrap up our lesson this week I have a final little handout you can share with your class! Its the visual as Jesus calms the storm, and I also included a phrase for the back to remind them that we too can call upon Jesus help in our daily lives.
