I Will Go and Do Come Follow Me Main Ideas
I want to start by sharing the main ideas for each of the different classes and home teaching. I like to share these because they will help you know what is being asked of you as a teacher or parent. They are the main topics from the Come Follow Me book. I also think they will help you feel inspired to share your own ideas and insights if you know the concepts you have been asked to share with your classes or families.
Families and Individuals
- The scriptures are of great worth.
- The Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ.
- When I seek and trust the Lord, He can soften my heart.
- God will prepare a way for me to do His will.
- Remembering the works of God can give me the faith to obey His commandments.
Primary
- I need my own testimony.
- God will help me keep His commandments.
- The scriptures are a great treasure.
- I can have my own testimony.
- I can respond with faith to the Lord’s commands.
- The Holy Ghost will lead me as I seek to do the Lord’s will.
Sunday School
- The scriptures are of great worth.
- We can gain our own testimonies as we soften our hearts.
- God will prepare a way for us to do His will.
Family Activity for I will go and do Come Follow me Lesson
The first idea I would like to share with you this week is for families. This idea come from the following prompt in Come follow Me:
The principle in 1 Nephi 2:20 is repeated often throughout the Book of Mormon. How can your family members apply it to their lives as you study the Book of Mormon together this year? Perhaps you could make a poster together featuring the Lord’s promise in this verse and display it in your home. It could serve as a reminder to periodically discuss how you have seen the Lord prosper your family when you have kept His commandments. Consider noting these experiences on the poster.
To help bring this idea to life for you I have created a poster of the verse 1st Nephi 2: 20 as suggested. Then I have created a fun jar activity for you. On the slips of paper you will write ways that your family has prospered when you have kept the Lords commandments. But I want you to keep this jar out the whole year. As you see the lord blessing your family for your righteous desires write them down and put them in the jar. At the end of the year read what you wrote to reflect on what a blessed year you had!

The first tool I have for you this week for primary and Sunday school is your Question and Prompt pages. I talk about these every week. But if you are new here let me introduce you! These are the backbone of your lesson. Take these with you to class and use them as a guide to help you teach your class. These Q&P pages are actual questions and prompts with scripture references you can use in class. Start from the top and work your way through the whole lesson. They are designed to be engaging and really help you dive into what main ideas are being taught this week! Enjoy!
Primary Ideas for Come Follow me Lesson Jan 6-12
I am really excited about this
Bring a closed box with a picture of the Savior inside, and give each child a turn to find out for himself or herself what is inside the box. Tell the children that Nephi wanted to have His own testimony that the Lord had commanded his family to leave Jerusalem. Ask the children to listen for what Nephi did to gain his own testimony as you read 1 Nephi 2:16. Testify that just as we each had to open the box to find out what was inside, we all need to ask God to gain our own testimony.

Get one for every member of your class and then add the free printable I have provided of the savior. Use this to teach this section of the lesson with your kids. They will love having the little box and their picture of Jesus to take home.
Sunday School Jan 6-12 Come Follow Me ideas
The last idea I have will help you teach your Sunday school classes. This is a two page work sheet that will help you teach one of the main ideas in the manual:

- 1st Nephi 3:22-31
- 1st Nephi 4: 5-38

These pages will help your class really study the scriptures and come to understand that the Lord will provide a way for us to do his will.
