“He is Risen” This primary lesson help has some fun Ideas including lesson helps handouts and coloring pages that will make it fun as you teach primary!
The lesson helps provided are specifically for the following Come Follow Me Lesson found here: “He
He Is Risen: Matthew 28, Luke 24, John 20-21-June 24-30
There are 3 central themes in this weeks CFM lesson. I always like to introduce them before we really dive into the lesson. This helps you better understand what you need to teach. When you have the focus of the lesson in the forefront of your mind it is easier to prepare!
The 3 themes in this weeks lesson:
- I will live again after I die, just as Jesus did.
- I can have faith in Jesus Christ even though I can’t see Him.
- I can show my love for Jesus by serving others.
Questions and Prompts
The first thing I always share to help you teach is the Question and Prompts page. Consider this your lesson outline. These are actual questions and prompts you can ask your class. They will lead you through each of the 3 themes I mentioned above. While this page will cover all the topics in this weeks lesson chances are you won’t have time to get to all 3. I suggest picking 1 as your main focus and really center your lesson prep on that. If you have time for the other two it is really easy to just keep working your way through the question and prompt page!
Just as the lesson topics are important scripture reference is also important as well. You will find that there are coinciding scriptures for almost all of the questions and prompts on this page. These will help you lead a discussion but use the scripture to back up the answers!
While I strongly encourage you to take time to plan and prepare your lesson each week, I understand that some times you just don’t have the time to do so. If you do nothing more but print out this page and show up to class you would have a great lesson ready to go with little work or effort!
Lesson Idea #1- for “He is Risen”
Lets now dive into the lesson handouts and actives! The first one I have for you goes with the following prompt found in your CFM manual:
Tell the story of Jesus’s Resurrection in your own words. Ask the children to take turns repeating the story back to you. You might refer to “Chapter 54: Jesus Is Risen,” New Testament Stories,
139–44, or the corresponding video (LDS.org). Explain that when Jesus died, His spirit left His body. When He was resurrected, His spirit and His body came together again.
You can use these two images of Jesus Christ to help illustrate the idea in Come Follow Me. The
Lesson Idea #2
The next lesson idea I have for you comes from this prompt in Come Follow Me:
Show the picture Christ Approaches Thomas (LDS.org) while you tell about Thomas’s experience in John 20:24–29. Repeat the story later in the lesson, but this time ask the children to provide some of the details.
I created these fun “binoculars” as well as a printable version of the scripture story that you can use to share the story of Thomas. It might be fun to let your class wear these binoculars as you read the story or share it out loud.
Lesson Idea #3
The next lesson idea I have for you comes from this prompt in the CFM Manual:
Read John 21:15–17, or show the video “Feed My Sheep” (LDS.org). Jesus didn’t want Peter to spend all of his time fishing. Instead, He wanted Peter to share the gospel and invite everyone to come to Him. Give each of the children a paper sheep, and ask them to write on it something they can do to help feed Jesus’s sheep.
You can use these sheep I have illustrated to write something they can do to help Jesus. There are also a few other suggestions such as “finding” the lost sheep game. You could use these sheep for as well.
Lesson Idea #4
The next idea I have for you is a prompt page I was inspired to creat it after reading this idea in CFM:
Invite the children to close their eyes and imagine that they are sitting by Jesus’s tomb while you read John 20:1–17 or summarize the story of His Resurrection (see also “Chapter 54: Jesus Is Risen,” New Testament Stories,
139–44, or the corresponding video on LDS.org). What would it have been like to see the resurrected Savior?
If your class is old enough have them write the answer to this prompt on the page I have provided.
Lesson Idea #4
The final lesson idea I have for you this week is a simple coloring page. This would be great for a younger class in place of idea #3. I got this idea from the following CFM prompt:
Invite the children to draw pictures of things they can do to strengthen their faith. As they draw, share what you have done to strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ.
You will find that there is a download for each of the printable’s I have shared below the image in this post. Print the ones you wish to use and prepare them prior to class on Sunday.
If you have a moment please pin the image I have shared below. This will allow you to share this lesson with your friends and family and also support the free lesson plans I share here on the blog! It would mean so much to me!
Thanks so much for being here and I hope this lesson helps your lesson prep be simple and fun!!
