This week’s primary lesson help includes several ideas to help you teach the parable of the lost coin, sheep, the prodigal son, and the 10 lepers. Outlined in this weeks Come Follow Me Reading and Primary Lesson Help.
Come Follow Me Primary: May 6th-12th-Luke 12-17, John 11- “Rejoice with Me; for I Have Found My Sheep Which Was Lost
Parable of the lost sheep
Welcome to a new primary lesson help! As you prepare for your lesson lets begin with the Lesson outline. This is a question and prompt page to help guide you through your lesson. The goal is to make it easy to teach important topics. But, by using the scriptures as the foundation. The questions and prompts are meant to encourage your class to actively participate in each lesson. They should invite sharing and storytelling from your young class as you learn in a group.

God want us to help people who are lost come back to Him.
“God wants us to help people who are lost come back to him” is a strong theme in this weeks lesson. As you read the weeks reading you will come across three stories that illustrate this. First, we have the parable of lost sheep. Next, we have the parable of the lost coin. Third, we have the story of the Prodigal son. In each of these stories, we learn about items or people who lost. Some physically some spiritually. As you teach these 3 lessons to your children I have created visuals you can share with your class. I made these coloring pages if you have a younger class. Additionally, there is also a third option which is a small booklet. I personally will use this option for my class. The booklet includes the scriptures of each story as well as the visuals.
Please head down to the bottom of this post for each option.

Gratitude for Our Blessings
Next, we have “gratitude for our blessings”. This is the second theme in the New Testament Reading for the week. I encourage you to share the story of the 10 lepers with your class and follow the prompts given in the lesson outline to teach this lesson to your class. If you are looking for a simple activity to share this lesson perhaps consider this one from CFM:
- Invite the children to list things they are grateful for that start with each letter of their name.
How can we have Faith when it is hard?
Now we have: “How can we have faith when it is hard?” This stood out to me as the third and final theme of this weeks Come Follow Me Primary Lesson.
To help you teach this lesson I have created a little half sheet that includes the following verse form John 11:20-27
They include Mary’s testimony here is the prompt for this activity:
- Read Martha’s testimony, found in John 11:20–27. Ask the children to look for words and phrases that show that Martha had faith. What can we do to have faith when it is hard?
My plan is to bring highlighters for my class to do this activity with the print out below.
